What Has Changed?
End of the Old Rule: The old rule, called the "acid test," is no longer used by itself.
The Old Acid Test: It only asked if a person was under control and not free to leave.
The New Way: People look at the whole picture, including the reasons for care, the person's feelings, and their wider life situation.
Consent: The court decided that a person can show they are happy with their care even if they find big decisions hard to make.
